Arriving October 2010, Engine 29-2
Equipped with Darley's AutoCAFS
Compressed Air Foam System

(Click on "In The News" to view the apparatus specifications and production drawings)

The dynamics of our Fire District have changed significantly and in order to provide the communities that we serve and our firefighters with the most up to date equipment available we are replacing our current tanker with a state of the art CAFS equipped Fire Engine. The new engine will be built by W.S. Darley and equipped with Darley's AutoCAFS system which will enable our firefighters to utilize either Class-A foam or Class-A Compressed Air Foam in addition to water to extinguish fires. Studies have proven Class A foam to be 2 times more effective than plain water as an extinguishing agent and the utilization of Compressed Air Foam Systems or CAFS increases the effectiveness to 4 times that of plain water. CAFS is so effective as a firefighting tool that in the state of Texas ISO ratings are reduced by 1.5 points for communities with CAFS equipped Fire Departments. Currently the ISO is being petitioned to apply these ratings reductions nationally.

Please take some time to learn what CAFS is and how it works.

CAFS in Action - Prescribed Barn Burn
Equipment used: Darley AutoCAFS, Task Force Tip 1.5 inch ball valve with 1.25 inch tip, 60 GPM foam solution flow rate @ 60 CFM air flow @ 100 psi. Notice the heavy black smoke and incipient stages of flashover immediately prior to introducing the CAFS firestream. Watch closely as the CAFS is introduced into the inferno and the heavy black smoke quickly dissipates. The flames are quickly extinguished and amazingly, knockdown occurred within 8 seconds of application! What an amazing testimonial exemplifying the potential of CAFS, Less than 10 gallons of water used !
